There’s something hidden behind the walls of the hurricane damaged house Jolie bought in her New Jersey beach town. Something someone seems willing to kill for. After Jolie and Scoobie find a small sack of jewelry as they do a mold attack on her bungalow, Jolie is pursued by a purse thief and a burglar. But the guy she’s most worried about is the one who left an elderly auctioneer dead on her porch swing. In between appraising houses and planning a fundraiser for the food pantry (can you say liquid string contest?), Jolie tries to figure out if there is more stolen bounty around town. Is the feared killer the same person who burned some vacant houses, or the as-yet unmasked Peeping Tom? And are they willing to kill again to get to the hidden riches?
Her friends and local police warn her to butt out, but that’s just encouragement for a woman who likes to get to the bottom of things. Jolie wrestles with fear as she tries to get her cat, Jazz, to feel at home in the new house. Maybe an unexpected visitor can be a substitute for Aunt Madge’s golden retrievers.
And then there’s her love life. Jolie also needs to decide if she really wants to get back with her former boyfriend, Ocean Alley Press reporter George Winters. Or are feelings for someone else trying to get her attention?

Each book in the Jolie Gentil series gets better and better; however, this was one of my favorites. Just when I thought I had it solved a new twist proved me wrong, once again! This is definitely a series worth reading. I enjoy how the characters evolve in each book and how their lives are not the same, despite the typical theme behind murder mysteries....murder takes place, sleuth for the killer, solve the mystery. Looking forward to more in this series and others by Elaine Orr. Since I live in Illinois, I hope one day she does a book tour in my area so I can meet her in person. It's nice to actually meet the people who write the books you love.Product details

Jolie and her friends and family are like folks you know and meet each day. Always a good mystery in these books. Light reading, no bad language, just a good story, which is exactly what I enjoy reading. I've read all of the Jolie Gentil books and enjoyed them.
I like this series a lot. The little town on the coast, the characters are written well and have a lot of history with each other. I like the way the stories are tied together from the first book to the most recent. This author is spending a lot of time carrying the continuity forward. I appreciate that.
I think the setting in the small ocean front town that was returning to life after HurricaneSandy was very fitting. Jolie has that amateur sleuth quality of being in the wrong place at the wrong time feel. This is a nice story about good people. It's enjoyable and makes for a pleasant read on a day that begs to stay inside.
Elaine Orr is one of my favorite authors, and this is delightful addition to the series. By this point Jolie et al are like old friends. It's always nice to catch up with their lives. Oh, and the plot of this one is every bit as strong as the others in the series. Now all I have to do is wait for Elaine to write the next one for me.
My Favorite Cozy Mysery Series on , I could go on and on about why you should read it but at the price of these books in this series you should just give them a try and you won't be disapointed. You will become a Fan like me in no time, Check Out the Boxed Sets she has for an even better deal, Just search "Jolie Gentil" on and you'll find sets of two or three books at an even better price! So worth it, I'm a guy and even though these are cozy mysteries I still love them. Even my 50yo Dad likes the series a lot. Good for High Scholers and Up!
Jolie Gentil has bought her own fixer-upper home. Now she just needs to fix it up, buy more furniture, move in and oh yes apparently find the owner of what was behind the walls.
The home projects might have went a lot smoother if a skunk hadn't returned home, a body hadn't been found on her front porch and the person or persons who think they deserve the stash that was found behind the walls that Jolie had to tear down then everything would have been exciting and cozy all rolled into one.
When another murder happens and more suspects are added to the list Jolie thinks she needs to solve the murders before she is the next victim.
BEHIND the WALLS by Elaine L. Orr is a great way to spend any season. Curl up indoors or outside with this book and be grateful you are not remodeling your home. Finding the right furniture is part of the fun.
When her home is broken into, and her pockets are picked she begins to think it's just another day in the neighborhood.
I had fun reading this book. There are unique characters and plot twists throughout the book. The ending wraps up at a steady pace and this book would make the perfect gift for any cozy or mystery lover.

In BEHIND THE WALLS, Jolie stumbles into a mystery and a murder when she buys a chest of drawers from an auctioneer for her newly purchased home blocks from the Shore. A drawer is missing, and that’s not all. Jolie encounters smooth-talking Clive Dorner, fresh from the city and hoping to scarf up bargain homes in Sandy’s wake. Meanwhile, when Jolie and Scoobie find hidden treasures behind a wall in her new home, the plot thickens.
In addition to Jolie, there are the usual cast of characters I've grown to love—Aunt Madge, the cranky Sergeant Morehouse, Scoobie, Lester, and George, Jolie’s erstwhile flame. And I won’t soon forget Elaine Orr’s depiction of the Jersey Shore after Hurricane Sandy, bruised but not beaten, a character in its own right, adding a strong sense of place to this series. Of course my favorite character is Jolie Gentile, real estate appraiser with a facile mind and sparkling wit who cannot let go once she’s gotten hold of a mystery.
Adding to the character list is a memorable cast of animals including Pebbles the skunk (devoid of scent glands, thanks be) who befriends a homesick Jazz, Jolie's cat. But the animals in Behind The Walls aren't just window-dressing—they reflect what Jolie’s feeling and have a special role to play toward the end of the story.
BEHIND THE WALLS is light, captivating, entertaining and wonderfully written. It swept me away to a place I love. Throughout the book, I could hear the waves and the gulls and taste the taffy. Be careful, though, the story, which never strays from being a cozy, still has sudden twists and turns, destruction and death. And although the mystery is solved in the end, the story leaves us guessing about the fate of George and Jolie. Will they ever get together again?
From the first page I delighted in this whodunit, in watching endearing characters struggle or romp through Elaine Orr’s magical words onto pages full of humor, suspense and surprise. If you like tightly plotted cozy mysteries, don’t miss this series. I’ve read four of them and plan to read the rest.
